Hey everyone. This is the temporary home of CheckItOutDC.
I decided to create CheckItOut because I felt that the concept behind it is an idea whose time is about to come. I looked and saw that there were literally hundreds of bloggers here in the DC area that are writing, commenting, and connecting. Whether they’re young singles or parental bloggers or neighborhood bloggers or bloggers who focus on a particular target, they all have one thing in common. Passion. Passion for experiencing and sharing and contributing to the vibrancy of our great city.
I then looked at the restaurant industry. Restaurants are local. They’re often someone’s dream, a business about hospitality – which means a business about people. Restaurants often rely on word of mouth (sometimes overly so) as their sole means of promotion. Restaurants are also often most vulnerable to slow economic times.
The concept behind social media – meaning blogs, podcasts, online reviews – empowers those of us who want to be part of the conversations that are already going on. And that’s the point. They’re already going on. People are writing about their lives and their surroundings. In short, they’re already writing about restaurants, nightclubs, theaters, and new shops.
So I decided to connect people and places.
If you’re an establishment, people are already writing about you whether you know it or not. It’s time to get involved in the conversation.
If you’re a blogger, it may be time to check out new places and experience new things.
Thus, CheckItOutDC is born.
